Kestrel jamieharrop2014-06-07T08:03:00+01:00June 7th, 2014|0 Comments Ali and I walked through fields above Rough Hey Wood and spotted this Kestrel hovering above. We watched it swoop down and catch something which it took to the nearby wall to eat. We also heard a Cuckoo calling close by. It must have only been a little snack because as soon as it had finished it started to hover again in search of more food. I think I scared the cuckoo because when it started singing I made an excited squeak and it stopped unfortunately. Steve Blacksmith June 8, 2014 at 11:07 am - Reply Great shots! Its blue-grey head and tail show it's an adult male Kestrel. The female has brown head and tail. We have had plenty of reports of Cuckoo throughout Calderdale this year which is encouraging.Nice shots of the Kestrel, looks like it caught a Wood Mouse (?)
